Firing Services for Non-Members
Come to Amphora during open studio hours to drop off your work to be fired. We will fire greenware and glazeware. Firing fees are 10 cents per cubic inch regardless of temperature. Minimum fee is $35. In order to fire your work in our kilns please fill out the form on the right providing us with as much detail as possible about your work when you drop it off with a staff member. Please fill out the a new form for each firing. If you drop off work for both bisque and glaze firing please fill out a separate form for each. You will need to unpack your own work onto our firing racks.
Requirements
Each piece must be clearly labeled with your name or makers mark.
Please list all clay bodies and glazes by brand name.
No home made glazes or wild clays can be fired.
Work with materials other than clay or glaze will also not be fired.
Please allow 2-3 weeks for your work to be fired.
We will contact you through email when your work is ready to pick up.
Payment will be collected when you drop off your items.
Please unpack your work onto a shelf as directed by a staff member.
Stilting is an additional fee of $1 per stilt. Stilts not provided.
Amphora is not responsible for fired results or damages of any kind.
We reserve the right to refuse firing services for any reason.
Makers assume full responsability for the replacement and repair for any equipment damaged during the firings.
Turn around time is approximate and we can not be held to deadlines.
Finished work left longer than 30 days will be discarded.
Any work that does not meet our firing guidelines will not be fired. See details below:
Firing Guidelines for Non-Members
Firing Guidelines: In order for us to safely fire your work in our kilns it must meet the following guidelines:
Greenware work for the bisque firing:
You must know what clay body and other materials used what temperature everything matures at.
Must be bone dry
Must not be thicker than 1/2 inch anywhere
Must not contain anything other than cone 5 clay
Must not contain armatures, paper or other sculpture tools
Must not be painted with underglaze that melts at cone 05
All hollow work must have holes for air to escape
Must have your name clearly written on the bottom
Must fit on a half shelf with kiln posts. The base of the piece can not be larger than 11 X 21in
Must be no taller than 25 inches
Glazeware for the glaze firing:
Must be 100% clean of glaze on the bottom and a minimum of 1/4 in on the sides of the foot.
Must not be greenware. All glazed work must already be bisquefired.
You must know the clay and glaze materials used on the work and what temperature they both mature at.
Must have your name clearly visible on the bottom.
Must fit on a half shelf with kiln posts. The base of the piece can not be larger than 11 X 21in
Must not be glazed with any unapproved glazes.
Must be placed on a cookie if it has a hole in the bottom. Cookies not provided.
Any stilts, bead racks, or kiln furniture used must be approved by a staff member. Stilts and bead racks are not provided.
Amphora will not fire work that has the following glazes or underglazes:
Any underglaze that fluxes at 05/06 applied to greenware
Amaco LG Series
Amaco Opalescent
Mayco Stroke & Coat or Speckled Stroke & Coat on greenware. Must be on bisque

Anything that is very runny and will stick pots to the kiln shelf
