Session 2: Feb 28th - Apr 4th (6 weeks)
In this course Abigail Akers will cover handbuilding and sculpture techniques with a focus on functional ware.
Pottery is one of the oldest human inventions dating back to 29,000 BC. That was certainly before the wheel! So in this class we are going to explore ways to work with the clay using handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coiling, and slab construction. Explore the ancient art of creating pottery by hand! This class is perfect for students of all levels who are interested in hand building techniques.
Throughout the course, Abigail will focus on laying a strong foundation in handbuilding fundamentals, covering essential techniques to elevate your work as well as tools and tricks to help avoid mistakes. Beginners will benefit from Abigail’s patient and hands-on approach, as she guides them through the basics and provides personalized instruction to address individual needs. The instructor will be available to assist students with wheel for students who have at least one wheel class, however the focus of this class is hand building and sculptural projects.
