Session 1: Jan 10th - Feb 14th (6 weeks)
All Levels Welcome. We will cover handbuilding and sculpture techniques as well as pottery on the wheel. Students who have at least one wheel class are welcome. The instructor will be available to assist students with wheel, however the focus of this class is handbuilding and sculptural projects.
Explore the ancient art of creating pottery by hand. Led by the skilled and engaging instructor, Abigail Akers, this class is perfect for students of all levels who are interested in handbuilding techniques. Students will learn a variety of handbuilding techniques including pinching, coiling, and slab construction to create both functional and sculptural ceramic pieces.
Whether you're a novice eager to experience the thrill of shaping clay or an experienced potter seeking to refine your technique, this course has something for everyone. Sharon, celebrates over 30 years of experience as a studio potter and ceramic arts instructor. She is known for highly colorful and decorative ceramic surfaces and refers to herself as a painter who uses clay and glazes.
Throughout the course, Sharon will focus on laying a strong foundation in handbuilding fundamentals, covering essential techniques such as coil building, pinch pots, and rolling out slabs. Beginners will benefit from Abigail’s patient and hands-on approach, as she guides them through the basics and provides personalized instruction to address individual needs.
